Dr. Lee Everett Monroe is dedicated to civil rights and to advancing the role of higher education in the Black community. Committed to these ideals since growing up as the son of a single mother in a poor neighborhood in Wilmington, North Carolina, Dr. Lee Everett Monroe has devoted his professional life to upholding these values.
As a young man, Dr. Lee Everett Monroe was offered scholarships to 27 colleges. Choosing to attend Shaw University, the oldest Black college in the South and located in Raleigh, North Carolina, on a full scholarship, Dr. Lee Everett Monroe was awarded a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Pursuing his graduate work at the University of Cincinnati, in Ohio, Dr. Lee Everett Monroe received a Master’s degree in Guidance Counseling and Industrial Psychology. Eventually returning to school after some time serving as an educator and administrator, Dr. Lee Everett Monroe was awarded a doctorate in Educational Administration from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Virginia.
Dr. Lee Everett Monroe has led an exemplary career spanning several decades, serving in executive leadership roles in several colleges, and as an educational specialist and advisor to governmental agencies. In addition, Dr. Lee Everett Monroe served for a number of years as Senior Education Advisor to the Governor of North Carolina, Jim Martin. As a noted speaker on matters of education, Dr. Lee Everett Monroe is uniquely qualified to address the special role and needs of African-American colleges and universities.
In his successful tenures at several Southern colleges, Dr. Lee Everett Monroe established a remarkable record for financial management and academic improvement. Credited with saving more than one struggling school from loss of accreditation and debt crisis, Dr. Lee Everett Monroe has exhibited dedication to ethical principles and a commitment to administrative leadership.
Presently residing in North Carolina, Dr. Lee Everett Monroe takes pleasure in reading, exercising, and spending time with his family and friends.
